What is better? Post Crowns or Implants?

What is better? Post Crowns or Implants?

answers 0:I want to know which is better. Please dont consider the cost as a factor. I want something that would last as long as possible. Is a post crown as good as an implant when able to get a post crown instead? Will it eventually fall out? I'de rather get a dental implant but if it's the same thing I would just go with the post crown. Also, is a post crown reversable in the sense that I can take it out and put in a dental implant afterwards? I read that you couldnt.Thank you!...Show moreanswers 1:If the underlying tooth has enough structure then the post and crown will do the job and could last indefinitely but more than likely it doesn't or they wouldn't use a post. Only your dentist can give you an estimate of how long it will last. Down the road if required the tooth with the post and crown could be removed and a impl! ant inserted. I've had it done in the past. Problem with the implant is it takes apprx. 6 months from start to finish where the post/crown can be done immediately....answers 2:AN IMPLANT HAS MANY ADVANTAGES TO ANY POST/CORE/CROWN. THESE DON'T LAST FOREVER AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED EVENTUALLY.AN IMPLANT WELL-CARED FOR LASTS A LIFETIMEanswers 3:if cost is no object, get an implant.answers 4:it is always better to perserve your own tooth as long as you can possibly keep it. If the tooth only needs a post and a crown - go for it. 10 - 15 years down the road when the crown needs replacement or if there is any recurrent decay or something goes wrong with the tooth and you have no other option but to extract tooth - then get an implant. teeth dont grow back - so keep your own as long as you can. if the tooth is not savable then extract and get implant - for sure. hope this helps....
