Arlene Maycumber: The cost of all of these items and the best place to buy will vary with your market.Labor and freight are major factors with the marble. The farther you are from the source, the more it costs to get it to the fabricator. Get prices and references from two or three installers in your area and go from th! ere. If you have a drawing of your new kitchen layout, it is not much trouble for them to give you a price and they will not mind at all.Gas will also vary with your area and how far you are from the main. The gas company that serves the southern region here charges a $100 tap fee, the company to the north charges $2500. Few miles difference, big price difference. Call you gas company for this. You will need a plumber to run the line into the house, again check with a few in your area and see.Appliances are a similar situation. I have seen good deals at Lowes here, but there is a mom & pop shop that really kicks them on some items. I would have left this question alone, except for the color question. Cherry cabinets are beautiful in the right setting, but you need to know what to expect. Cherry has a very disitnct contrasting grain pattern. Most of the wood will be a rich red color with an orange cast. There will be streaks of varying width of wood that is nearly! white with a yellowish cast. Your choice of stain will have ! an effect on this -- lighter stains will tend to make the variations more stark, darker stains will mask the variations a bit and give you a more even look. The important part is the color of cherry changes considerably and somtimes unpredictably over time. Your cabinets will have a much different color in three years than they do when you install them. Because of this, you need to be very careful in selecting colors for other elements of your kitchen -- especially an expensive marble top. Neutral, earthy colors are much safer than bold bright colors. Blue may or may not be OK when the cabinets come out of the box depending upon your stain selection, but I certainly would not consider it because of the change in color that you will experience....Show more
