American authors? which one to pick?

answers1:Plenty of information is available for classic authors like
Edgar Allen Poe or Nathaniel Hawthorne. You could choose Harper Lee or
S.E. Hinton. Or you could go with someone more contemporary like James
Joyce Oates, Stephen King, or Amy Tan. I personally find Amy Tan to
be very interesting. Her life story is colorful, touching, sad,
heroic, and a great many other things. She also has recurring themes
in all of her work revolving around the mother/daughter relationship:
something that resonates with me on a very personal level. So I would
personally choose her. But the choice is yours. You obviously want to
choose a well known author since there will be more information
available on them. If you're looking for literary authors and want to
discuss their application of literary elements like symbolism and the
like...then the classic authors are a great choice. Harper Lee and
S.E. Hinton are more 'thematic" writers and there's less information
available on Harper Lee since she's one of those "one-book-wonder"
